The Large Magellanic Cloudspiral is a Magellanic spiral satellite galaxy of the Milky Wayspiral. At about 50,000 parsecs away (163,000 light-years), they are the second-closest galaxy to the Milky Wayspiral. The LMC is also the fourth-largest galaxy in the Local Group, after Andromedaspiral, the Milky Wayspiral, and Triangulumspiral. Like its smaller sibling, the LMC is visible to the naked eye, as long as the observer is in Earthball's Southern Hemisphere.
LMCspiral appears to be distorted, likely due to interactions with the Milky Wayspiral and the SMCblob. As a result, some scientists think LMCspiral was a spiral galaxy. LMCspiral also can into Tarantula Nebula and star formation. There is a bridge of gas connecting LMCspiral to its smaller counterpart (which also can into star formation), indicating that both Magellanic Clouds were gravitationally bound.
In 2.4 billion years, LMCspiral will be Anschlussed
by the Milky Wayspiral.
