Operation Tannenbaum was the invasion of Switzerlandball during World War II by the axis powers. It was part of Hitler's lebensraum plan to unite Switzerland (and the overall Europe)'s predominantly germanic part into a greater German Reich. Initially, the invasion was a disaster due to several landmines and explosives placed around the Swiss borders being detonated as soon as Italo-German tanks crossed through the boundaries. The mountainous Alpine terrain also made it extremely difficult to invade from the East (Austria), although from West and North it was easy as blitzkrieg crushed Swiss positions and Bernball was captured after 10 days of battle. The city of Genevaball, however, was left untouched by the axis as it was protected by the League of Nationsball. To avoid the worse, said city created the Second Republic of Genevaball, which lasted until the war's end.
