Trịnh lordball was not actually a dynasty, but was monarchic stratocracy clan who were the de facto rulers of northern Vietnam from 1545 to 1787, while the Emperors of Later Lê dynastyball were only nominate figureheads of the state but have no real power at all. The area which ruled by Trịnh lordball was called Tonkin by Westerners, named after its capital Đông Kinh or today Hanoi. It was overthrown by the Tây Sơn rebellion or Tây Sơn dynastyball in 1787.
