History
During World War II, Japan occupied Terengganu and transferred sovereignty over the state back to Siam, which had been renamed Thailand in 1939, along with Kelantan, Kedah, and Perlis. After the defeat of Japan, British control over these Malay states was reestablished. Terengganu became a member of the Federation of Malaya in 1948 and a state of independent Malaya in 1957.
Following decades of rule by the Barisan Nasional (National Front) coalition, the Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS) came to power in the 1999 General Elections, making Terengganu the second state in Malaysia to be ruled by the Islamist party (the first being neighboring Kelantan).
However, in the 2004 General Elections, Terengganu was recaptured by the Barisan National. But shortly after that, it was reclaimed by PAS, who is, by now, still holds Terengganu. It's because of the PAS back-to-back wins that make it one of the strongholds of PAS, alongside Kelantanball (of course) and Kedahball (sometimes).
Things about Terengganuball
Outsiders don't know much about Terengganuball compared to other Malaysian states. Some said that it's always in the shadows of its more popular sibling Kelantanball, others said that it is shy. Whatever it is, we will never know. However, it's relatively famous today, largely due to famous people from his clay making a big impact on the country as a whole. And also because of beaches, islands, food, etc. Although it really wants people to visit its mountainous interior because not many people were doing so. Talk about a genuine Cameron Highlands rival.
Talking about relationships, it is generally friendly to every other state, but especially to Kelantanball, being more related to it than any other state. (Also super friendly to Narathiwatball/Menaraball and Pattaniball/Pataniball, but we know how that ends.) Both love to do things differently than other states, largely because both still maintain the traditional culture of Malaysiaball, it wouldn't be a shocking prospect if I tell you there are still some mages living there.
Both love to play the famed wau bulan, both love building boats, both love their beaches, both can into mountainous countrysides, both can into traditional Malay music, both can into 'wonderful' Malay accents, both can into pretty girls (learn the dialects first if you want to date them), both can into some questionable dances, both can into being literal Malay Shakespeares, both can into some weird rice, do I really should elaborate this? They're best sibs for life. (Not in football/soccer though, but sorry...)
Fun facts about Terengganuball
- His capital city is the only Malaysian capital city to bear the name of the state it's stated within. (no pun intended)-Remember Lake Kenyir? It's still, the largest man-made lake in ASEAN.
-You can find the tallest chengal tree in the world in his clay.
-Integrated to the slope of Bukit Besar in his capital city is a huge sign, not dissimilar to the ones found in Hollywood, that reads: "Allah, Peliharalah Terengganu." Allah is the single god in Islam, the state's major religion. Peliharalah Terengganu means, "Protect Terengganu." The sign can occasionally light up during the night.
-If Kelantanball has the mighty Jelawang Falls, Terengganuball has the majestic Chemerong Falls. Both are over 300 meters in height, but the question of which is taller remains unsolved since there are so many freaking estimates.
-If you draw it as a countryball, the white frame on the official flag becomes stripes.Districts
