Reconquista, which translates to "reconquest" in Spanish and Portuguese, was a series of wars that enabled Christian kingdoms in Spain and Portugal to retake territory from Islamic sultanates and caliphates on the Iberian Peninsula. Due to the fact that it lasted about 774 years, it was the longest war in human history.
This long and gruelling war was also part of the Crusades.
