The Military Dictatorship of Brazilball was a military dictatorship of 
Brazilball. It was ruled by an 
authoritarian military dictatorship, which was also staunchly anti-communist. Political opponents got tortured by the regime; the media was very limited during its time.
It rose to power by overthrowing the Fourth Brazilian Republicball; the Brazilian military feared that João Goulart, the president of Brazilball at the time, would make Brazilball become communist, so they carried out a coup on him and his government - which was backed by 
USAball.
The military dictatorship persecuted political opponents who they deemed as "leftists", including 
socialists, 
social democrats, 
communists, and even 
liberals. The victims of the military regime were tortured, and a lot of them either disappeared or got killed.
The military dictatorship finally ended when João Figueiredo, the final president of the regime, transitioned the dictatorship to a democracy. The liberalization of Brazilball succeeded, and the Sixth Brazilian Republicball was created. Brazilball finally became democratic; Brazilball had its first direct presidential elections since 1960.
