Ghassanidsball, also called Banu Ghassānball and Jafnidsball, was a Pre-Islamic Arab kingdomball. Like Lakhmidsball was to Sassanidsball, it also acted as a strong buffer zone protecting Byzantineball's clay in the Levant.

    History

Ghassanidsball have wrongly been said to have originated in Yemenball. This claim, however, doesn't make much sense when we take into account Yemenite reports of the time such as the Jabal Riyam inscriptions, where Ghassanidsball are described as living in the north of the Arabian Peninsula already in the 3rd century AD.

Furthermore, Ghassanidsball didn't speak any Sabaic language as Himyarite Kingdomball at the time. Ghassanidsball were then an Arab tribe from northern Hejaz (in what is now Saudi Arabiaball), that had previously lived under Nabateaball.

After settling in the Levant, Ghassanidsball became a client state to Byzantineball, taking through time this position from other Arabballs such as Tanukhidsball and Salihidsball. Ghassanidsball would then act as a strong buffer zone protecting Byzantineball's clay against raids by Bedouin tribeballs.

They fought alongside Byzantineball against Sassanidsball and their vassal Lakhmidsball. They achieved success in opposing Lakhmidsball and prospered economically and engaged in much religious and public building.

Ghassanidsball were entitled to protect the Christian Holy Land in Palestineball, which included the provinces of Arabiaball, Palaestina Secundaball and Palaestina Salutarisball of Byzantineball. Under Emperor Justinian I, Byzantineball gave Ghassanidsball near total control of Syriaball.

Ghassanidsball aided Byzantineball cracking down severely on rebelling Samaritancubes from 484 to 572, reducing considerably their numbers and consequently making Christianity the majority religion not just in Samaria as part of Palestina Primaball, but all of Palestineball.

During the 6th century AD though, as the Ghassanidsball veered toward Oriental Orthodoxy, which was regarded as heretical by Byzantineball, some Ghassanidsball warred Byzantineball for their religion.

    Islamic conquest

After Rashidunball united the Arabian Peninsula under the banner of Islam, Ghassanidsball murdered Rashidunball's ambassador and provoked a war between it and Byzantineball. Ghassanidsball fought together with Byzantineball in the pivotal Battle of Yarmouk, after which the entire Levant fell to Rashidunball.

Even under Islamic rule, Ghassanidsball remained Christian and feigned cooperation with Rashidunball and later Umayyadball, in which Ghassanidsball formed a core part of the army. Nowadays, pretty much all Christians in Jordanball and Palestineball are descendants of Ghassanidsball, who established cities like Ramallahball and others.

The last king of Ghassanidsball, Jabalah ibn-al-Aiham, established a Government-in-exile in Byzantineball. Nikephoros I, a Byzantineball Emperor, was a descendant of King Jabalah and claimed headship of Ghassanidsball.
