Midway to Victory |
| Description |
This comic was based on the Battle of Midway, which was probably the most successful and pivotal battle of the Pacific front in WWII. Context: Rather than trying to draw airplanes and actual carriers and battleships, I decided to play to my own strengths and go for a more metaphorical approach, depicting this battle as a game of Battleship between Japan and the US. Some extra details you may or may not have caught: the US has more game pieces on his board than you're even allowed to have in a normal game of Battleship, reflecting the US's numerical advantage at Midway. The mirror is my way of depicting the fact that the US had advance knowledge of Japan's fleet size and position, while the Japanese never knew the US knew. I'd say this was a pretty successful contest entry, and I'm really excited for my chances next month. I'm coming for you, /u/DickRhino! |
