

Dushanbe is a Persian word that translates to "Monday" in English.
History
Dushanbeball was first settled by the Khanate of Bukharaball, was later adopted by the
Emirate of Bukharaball,
Khanate of Kokandball,
Qingball,
Russian Turkestanball,
Turkestan ASSRball,
Tajik ASSRball,
Tajik SSRball and now is the capital of
Tajikistanball.
The modern city's construction began in 1924, and it was a small village until then. It was known as Dyushanbe from 1924 to 1929, and as Stalinabad from 1929 to 1960. In 1961, as part of de-Stalinization, Stalinabad was renamed back to Dushanbe, the name it retains to this day.
