Charente-Maritimeball is a department on the southwestern coast of Franceball named after the Charente River. It is located in the Nouvelle-Aquitaineball region.
Between the cities of La Rochelleball and Rochefortball lies the Pertuis d'Antioche strait between the islands of Ré and Oléron. It is best known for being the location of the famous Fort Boyard, which is the setting for the long-running French game-adventure series of the same name and is used in all international versions of the show as well.
