Like the Khoisan languages, the Nilo-Saharan languages are mostly unintelligible with each other and their existence as a connected language family is dubious. However, due to the fact that they share some similarities, they are usually grouped with each other.
The origin of the Nilo-Saharan languages is mostly unknown. They could have originated in 
Nubiaball along the Nile River, but this is unconfirmed.
