History

Information

Armavirball was officially born as a 2ball, but soon was given an identity by Urartuball in the year 776 B.C.. In later years, he was adopted by Ancient Armeniaball, SPQRball, Parthiaball, Persiaball, Russian Empireball, Transcaucasiaball, Sovietball and Armeniaball. The others kept dying out or being taken over by kebab. He became cityball for First Republic of Armeniaball in 1918, then was raionball of Armenian SSRball and now modern Armeniaball as city.

Modern history

The Soviet 11th Red Army invaded Armeniaball on 29 November 1920, and a few days later Armeniaball became an official part of the Sovietball on 2 December 1920. The Soviets proclaimed Armeniaball as a Soviet Socialist Republic under the leadership of Aleksandr Myasnikyan. However, in 1922, Armeniaball was included in the newly created Transcaucasian SFSRballs.

By the decision of the Soviet government, the settlement of Armavirball was founded as Sardarabatball on 26 July 1931, only 8 km north of the ancient city of Armavirball, to become the regional centre of the Hoktemberyan raionball created earlier in 1930 (known as Ghurdughuli raionball until 1935). It was originally founded as a railway station connecting Yerevanball with Leninakanball. The first major urban plan of the town was introduced by architect Alexander Tamanian.

In 1935, the name of the settlement was changed from Sardarabatball to Hoktemberyanball in honor of the 1917 October Revolution. At the beginning, it was home to Armenian families who migrated from Javakhetiball, Shirakball and Zangezur. During the 1940s, many Yazidis and Kurds from the nearby villages have also settled in Hoktemberyanball. With the rapid development of the settlement as an industrial hub, Hoktemberyanball was given the status of a town in 1947.

The population of the town was further increased in the 1950s and 1960s upon the arrival of repatriated Armenian families from Iranball, Syriaball and Lebanonball. In 1966, the Armavirball branch of the Yerevanball Brandy Company was opened. In 1967, Hoktemberyanball became a city of republican subordination.

Following the independence of Armeniaball in 1991, Hoktemberyanball was renamed Armavirball on 7 November 1995, to become the provincial centre of the newly-formed Armavir Provinceball, as per the 1995 administrative reforms of Armeniaball.
