Abovyanball is the cityball in Kotaykball.

    History

    Information

Abovyanball was officially born as a 2ball, but soon was given an identity by Urartuball in the 8th century BC. In later years, he was adopted by Ancient Armeniaball, SPQRball, Parthiaball, Persiaball, Russian Empireball, Transcaucasiaball, Sovietball and Armeniaball. The others kept dying out or being taken over by kebab. He became villageball for First Republic of Armeniaball in 1918, then was raionball of Armenian SSRball and now modern Armeniaball as city.

    Early history

During excavations in the 1860s led by historian Mesrop Smbatiants, the remains of a 2nd-millennium BC Cyclopean fortress, an ancient cemetery and old shelters with several objects from the three stages of the Bronze Age were found near Abovyanball. Smbatiants also found an 8th-century BC Urartian cuneiform inscription left by King Argishti I, referring to the conquest of the "land of Daraniball" (the pre-Urartian name of the modern-day Abovyanball area). The excavations led by Smbatiants revealed that the area of modern-day Abovyanball was inhabited starting from the end of the 4th century BC. During the ancient Kingdom of Armeniaball, the western area of modern-day Abovyanball was part of the Kotayk cantonball of Ayrarat provinceball, while the eastern area was part of the Mazaz cantonball of the same province. Between the 5th and 7th centuries AD, the region was granted to the Amatuni Armenian noble dynasty.

    Middle Ages

After the Seljuk invasion of Armeniaball, the area became known as Elarball. According to the 13th-century Armenian historian Stepanos Orbelian, Elarball became part of the Kingdom of Georgiaball. Later, the region of Elarball was granted to prince Liparit Orbeli of the Orbelian Dynasty by prince Ivane Mkhargrdzeli.

    Modern history

By the beginning of the 16th century, Eastern Armeniaball fell under the Persiaball's rule, and Elarball became part of the Erivan Khanateball. After the Russian conquest of Armeniaball in 1828, Elarball became part of the Armenian Oblastball and subsequently of the Erivan Governorateball formed in 1850. At the time of the Russian conquest in 1828, Elarball had a purely Armenian population consisting of 158 people, of whom 88 were of local origin and 70 were from Western Armeniaball, or Iranball.

The small village of Elarball remained the largest settlement in the area until 1961, when it was renamed Abovyanball in honour of the Armenian writer Khachatur Abovian. 2 years later in 1963, the town of Abovyanball was founded by the Sovietball including the village of Elarball and the surrounding areas. The modern town was built in 1962–1963 on a plateau located between Hrazdan and Azat rivers. It rapidly developed as an industrial centre within the Armenian SSRball. The town was planned to include 8 residential neighbourhoods (locally known as micro-districts), and an industrial district.
