A guy who can't make ambulances (talkcontribs)

Just so you know, this is going to be a very opinionated post.

2 days ago, the British government approved the extradition of Julian Assange to the US. In case you don't know, Julian Assange is an Australian activist who founded WikiLeaks, and has used it to publish leaks of government documents provided by whistleblowers, which have made him a target of various government actions. In 2019, he was arrested by British police, and ever since then, the US government has been attempting to get him extradited to the US to be charged for the various leaks he published on Wikileaks, which included evidence of war crimes, human rights abuses, corruption, and more in Iraq and Afghanistan. Assange is still able to appeal the decision, and he is saying that he will, but it seems that his extradition is still quite likely. At the beginning of 2021 the British courts actually denied his extradition due to his risk of suicide under the US prison system (Assange's mental health has been deteriorating under the British prison system and it is widely believed that he has been psychologically tortured and subjected to other inhumane treatment in prison), but near the end of 2021 that was reversed after the US government made a bunch of assurances that I doubt will be followed given that the CIA had a plot to kill Assange while he was in the Ecuadorian Embassy (From 2012 to 2019). The US government's attempts to get Assange extradited and prosecute him are an attempt to silence and make an example out of him to scare journalists and whistleblowers away from publishing the truth about this government.

Well shit, Australia's government officials are now saying that they will not help Assange. A lot of people believed that Australia's newly elected government would try to stop him from being extradited but now they're saying that they're not going to "interfere" with what's happening.

It looks like the Mexican government is trying to help him out but I don't know how much they'll actually be able to do
