Napoleonic Kingdom of Naplesball was a Napoleonic puppet stateball.
History
Italyball was born as a 2ball, adopted by Ancient Greeceball, Carthageball, Gaulball, SPQRball, Western Roman Empireball and Ostrogothic Kingdomball. After that, he was splitted into many and many states through centuries till Napoleon came and anschlussed him.
Lechi’s Neapolitans and Italians were employed in constant counter-guerrilla actions in Catalonia. They took part in Général de Brigade Schwarz’s expedition to Manresa, roughly 40km away from Barcelona. On their way there, they were ambushed and sent in headlong retreat, with heavy losses. A second expedition fared no better, suffering almost 400 casualties. Later in June 1808 the Neapolitans took part in Duhesme’s Siege of Girona. Both assaults on the city failed due to the lack of siege artillery in Duhesme’s arsenal. Furthermore, the garrison left behind at Barcelona was massacred by the population, leading to guerrillas occupying the city until Marshal Saint-Cyr’s corps arrived to retake the Catalan capital. It is reported that Duhesme praised the Neapolitans for good conduct during the operation.
After the disasterous invasion of Russia, the Neapolitan cavalry had the honour of escorting Napoleon himself back to France, with heavy casualties due to the weather. Napoleon respected the Neapolitans, however after Murat's betrayal they would have no interest fighting for him in the upcoming war against Austria. The outnumbered Neapolitans held Danzig against the Russians & Prussians for almost one year.
After Leipzig Naplesball, seeing the situation was hopeless for Franceball, decided to switch sides just like his son did one century later. Murat would keep his throne in Naples if he provided 30,000 troops to support the allies in Northern Italy. However, Naplesball disgracefully dragged his feet in doing so, and was only goaded by his Austrian allies into attacking the Franco-Italians at the River Taro, some 10k west of Parma. He was victorious in this minor clash.
In 1814 Europe defeated Napoleon and Italyball became split up again. A few days before Napoleon's return from Elba, knowing he would come back, Naplesball decided to attack Austriaball to gain Franceball's trust, since the four main Coalition members planned to remove King Murat from the Neapolitan throne. He was intially successful at Panaro, only to be defeated at Occhiobello and every other battle in the Neapolitan War. The morale of the Neapolitan army was so sinking at every battle following Murat's first defeat, also when UKball declared war on him too. He was decisively beaten at Tolentino, since Murat's general Carrascosa was withdrawing towards the river Tronto, instead of fighting general Neipperg's troops at Cesano, plus the other message falsely informed the king that the Austrian army was entering Abruzzi and approaching Campania. Naplesball performed well at the start of the battle, still Austriaball refused to retreat. But Naplesball made a huge mistake by ordering his advancing columns into 4 giant squares - large, lumbering formations made to protect from cavalry. Austriaball seized the opportunity to order an artillery battery to rip through the leading square at close range, and then charged several squadrons of cavalrymen into the gaps left in the square. The entire advance broke and Naplesball fled. At San Germano Austrian hussars, jägers & grenzers assaulted and routed the remaining 6,000 Neapolitans. The majority of the Neapolitans panically fled as soon as the battle started, with the Austrians eventually taking over 1,000 prisoners. The Neapolitan War ended with the Treaty of Casalanza and Murat being executed.
